Glimpses of Antigua

I made it to Guatemala!

I won’t bore you all with my transit details – except to say that my 12 hour layover in Terminal F in Atlanta was surprisingly comfortable (thank you, SleepinginAirports.net for the fab info!), and thanks to Delta’s super rad in-flight entertainment, I found and totally binge watched my new favorite film. Stick around for more details below.

thumb_img_6539_1024Terminal F at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport is da bomb. Couches! Outlets! Security guards!

But you’re not reading this post to see my view of the escalators. What you’re really wondering is where the heck I ended up and to confirm that I’m still alive (indeed, I am!). To make a somewhat boring story short, after arriving in Guatemala City, I hopped on a shuttle to the city of Antigua and arrived to my hostel at approximately 5pm last Thursday night. I’ve spent the last few days wandering on some crazy-ass cobblestoned streets, drinking loads of iced coffee, and taking one-on-one Spanish lessons.

The photo above is of the Volcán de Fuego, as it was erupting, which is about 10 miles outside of Antigua. This was taken from the rooftop of our hostel. Doesn’t it remind you of a Bob Ross painting? And to add to magic, below is yet another view from the roof, this time of Volcán de Agua.

Let’s build some happy little trees.”

And because I know my mom wants to see my beautiful mug to ensure that I’m alive and well. Ta da!

As an added bonus, I want to recommend the film Captain Fantastic. I watched it from MSP->ATL, and then AGAIN from ATL->GUA. And now this film has been added to my odd list of obscure obsessions. Please enjoy the beautiful trailer below.
